The Gentle Giant
By Lilly Matthias
Lilly from New Jersey said:
I am a recent high school graduate, and when I first saw this video scholarship contest, I immediately became excited. Throughout my entire life, I have loved to make videos and short films. Incidentally, I have also been vegetarian for years and try to spread the plant-based message as much as possible. To have the opportunity to potentially influence others with a video is a dream come true! I chose to highlight a local small business that is the only 100% vegan restaurant in the county I live in. The message I am portraying with the video is that vegan-run business and vegan communities are more than just the diet. It is the culture, the compassion for animals, the caring for other people. Please enjoy my video, "taking care of community, the vegan way ~ The Gentle Giant Cafe".
PLANT-BASED DIET
By Ava Muehlbauer

The Colorado River Solution
By Marian Gonzalez
Marian from New York said:, I am interested in vegetarianism for environmental reasons. A goal of mine is to reduce pollution by raising awareness about the devastating effects of the meat industry. By advocating a vegetarian lifestyle, I believe the public can counteract the ethical dilemmas introduced by factory farming.
Superhero for the Planet
By Gianna
Gianna from Arizona said: I'm interested in vegetarianism because it seems like a good way to be kind to animals, protect the environment, and maybe even improve my health. I want to learn more about how eating a plant-based diet can make a positive impact overall.
Vegetarian Rap
By Michelle
Michelle from Texas said: "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver." - Gandhi. This statement is one that I am living by as I embark on my healthy lifestyle journey. Taking charge and controlling what I put in my body has shown to be very effective with vegetarianism, and I have noticed a vast difference in my health. It also impacts the environment and is highly sustainable, as it requires fewer resources compared to animal agriculture, which contributes to the increase in greenhouse emissions that are harmful to the Earth.
Meat or Meatless
By Megan Wilkinson
Megan from Pennsylvania said: Initially, I went vegetarian because of the inhumane practices of meat husbandry. I grew up near two large meat packing plants, so I frequently witness trucks transporting cattle or pigs to those facilities. It has always made me sad, which motivated me to go vegetarian when I was twelve. I've remained vegetarian because of the environmental impact of the meat industry, and advocate for more people to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle (or include less meat in their diet)! I hope to go vegan one day once my lifestyle supports it!

The Truth About Factory Farming
By Esther Wilson
Esther from Utah said: I am interested in vegetarianism/veganism because of many reasons. Initially, I became vegan because of the environmental impact it would have. However, as I became more educated, I learned about animal ethics and the devastating things that happen in factory farming. For me, that became just as important to me as the environmental aspects of veganism because no sentient being deserves to suffer, especially if humans are intentionally bringing about that suffering. This is why I am interested in veganism, and I am passionate about sharing my knowledge with others in the most uplifting and approachable way.
Brocco Lee: The Vegetarian Superhero
By Tithi Mehta
Tithi from New Jersey said: I have been a vegetarian my whole life, but only last year did I realize the biggest advantage vegetarians have: we can grow our own food. I started growing my food last year and have been actively involved in sharing my passion with friends and family alike. Now, they love it too! Vegetarianism and vegetarian food are often deemed as boring when that is simply not true; the benefits of vegetarianism exist not only for the animals that you save but also for you--from eating cleaner and saving money to getting to bond with your family while you can grow your own food. Here, I become "Brocco Lee" and show the power of vegetarianism.
Vegan Cooking Video
By Makani Ross
Makani from Pennsylvania said: Ever since I was a child, I have always been extremely intrigued with the vegetarian lifestyle. Not only does this plant-based diet bring a multitude of health benefits, but it also is a more sustainable option. Vegetarian diets have the greatest reduction of land use and greenhouse gas emissions. Fishing, land use, and water usage to grow crops can all be decreased when more people consider a vegetarian diet. Pollution from livestock production largely comes from animal waste. This can run off into our waterways and harm aquatic wildlife and ecosystems. The fact that a simple shift in diet can not only improve human health, but also improve our earth is an amazing reason to consider vegetarianism.
Why Being a Vegan is Great
By Naomi Becks
Naomi from Georgia said: I am interested in vegetarianism because it allows you to step outside your comfortable zone, and it provides many benefits to your health.
The Vegetarian/Vegan Survival Guide
By Saisravya Bandla
I became interested in vegetarianism to increase my awareness of its impact and variety of benefits. I quickly noticed that there weren't many resources helping with the process of switching to a no-meat diet. Hence, I researched and compiled a list of tips to help with the process.
Fast Fashion and Veganism
By Catherine Ching
I am interested in veganism because I care about the life and well being of animals. After learning about the factory farming process and animals being impregnated, mutilated, slaughtered, etc. and the environmental impacts like deforestation and the release of methane in the air, I went on a plant based diet and began supporting cruelty free brands.

By Saisravya Bandia

By Julia Rosie Finnecy
I am interested in vegetarianism because of the impact it has on the environment, and because it encourages people to try new things.
Choice
By Ishva Mehta
I have been vegetarian my entire life. Hence, meat consumption has always been foreign and baffling to me. However, only recently, I ventured into veganism & plant-based living for moral reasons, and I already know that I am not turning back. Leaving dairy was difficult, but it is worth it. Now, not only do I notice a difference in my skin and overall health, but I also feel a sense of relief because I no more feel guilty when looking down at my plate. In my poem, "CHOICE," I try to explain the wrongfulness in animal-product consumption that I experienced consuming dairy, ultimately striving to inspire masses to make the right choice.
Vegetarian Mexican Style
By Chloe Raygoza
I ... educated myself about a vegetarian lifestyle. To me, being is not about worrying whether or not the food we heat is healthy or what it is actually made of because it is crafted from the most natural ingredients.

The Power of Plant-Based Diets
By Adam Vossen
Adam is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group video contest. Adam stated: During my formative teenage years, I spent hours upon hours getting lost on random websites and videos. One day, I stumbled upon a video that would change my life. "Why You Should Go Vegan" was the title, and watching it led me into weeks of research and questioning of my past and future eating habits. After about a month of contemplation, I decided to make the move to go vegetarian, and a couple months after that, I took it to the next level and went vegan. I've always had a grey-cloud of anxiety floating over my head regarding animal abuse and climate change, and with this diet, I finally felt like I was doing something to combat that. Not only did this lifestyle change prompt internal gratitude, it also provided me with a new community and identity I felt I lacked. I was constantly motivated and inspired by the fact that my food choices were helping my body, the planet, and the animals. Today, I define my vegan lifestyle as a project larger than myself, where my diet is 100% plant-based and I prioritize the environment, animal rights, and my health over my taste-buds.
Go Vegan to Save the Trees
By Dayana Love
Dayana Love is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group video contest and wrote: I am interested in veganism for multiple reasons. First is my health, I've watched multiple documentaries on the harmful effects that animal products have on your body. I feel that the only logical step for me to take is to cut it out of my diet. Second, I am very passionate about the environment and after learning about the negative effects livestock production has made me eager to switch to a vegan diet. Finally, I am a huge animal lover! and would like to align my diet with my values.
Living the Vegetarian Lifestyle
By Dharshan Varia
Dharshan Varia is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group video contest and wrote: I am interested in vegetarianism because of the overwhelming health benefits I have seen associated with this diet. Additionally, morally, it does not sit well with me that we must kill animals and let them suffer from personal satisfaction when there are other plant-based options available. In the past few years, I have been really interested in vegetarian restaurants and cooking. I have learned how to effectively substitute plant-based proteins for meats while still maintaining the overall flavor of a meal. I believe that vegetarianism is a growing trend and I hope that my interest in vegetarianism will allow people to learn about environmental, health, and moral benefits associated with vegetarianism.

Digital Story: Fishing
By Ivan Lashinsky
Ivan is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group video contest. Ivan stated: I was depressed whenever I looked down at my plate and saw the corpse of something that used to be alive. I do not want any flame to be extinguished in order to fuel my own fire.
Lean, Mean, & Green Machine!
By Caleb J. Edwards
Caleb is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group video contest. Caleb stated: I am interested in vegetarianism to reap the benefits of the clean eating that is most often associated with it. My interest in vegetarianism spans from meal preparation, meal creativity, food source, and environmental justice.
How to Make a Vegan Buddha Bowl
By Shania Clark
Shania is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group video contest. Shania stated: I became a vegetarian when I was 17 years old after watching videos taken inside slaughterhouses. After seeing how horrible the conditions were, I couldn't justify letting animals suffer and die for me to eat them when there are so many other cruelty free options. I was a vegetarian for 2 years and then I transitioned to complete vegan a year ago and I can't imagine ever going back to meat. My interest and tireless advocation for vegetarianism has convinced several family members and friends to try more meatless options as well. Being a vegetarian and then a vegan actually sparked my interest in food; that's why I'm pursuing a degree in nutrition. I'm excited to graduate with this degree so I can teach people that meat is not only something they can live without, but that they'll thrive on a diet of mainly vegetables, fruits, legumes, and grains.
Intro to Veganism
By NeCole Hilton
NeCole is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group video contest. NeCole stated: No cheeseburger, leather car interior, or milkshake is worth the immense suffering we systematically inflict upon billions of sentient beings in the 21st century. With a growing array of plant based alternatives that don't involve the avoidable and agonizing theft of someone els's life, compassion to animals is a moral imperative. There is no 'human' way to needlessly reduce someone else's life and value to their exploitation, dismemberment & death. Veganism is the best and most effective moral, ethical, economic, environmental, and compassionate stance against needless exploitation, abuse, and killing of other sentient beings. By being vegan, I am contributing toward a more peaceful and tranquil future for all Earthlings, and wish to educate others so that they may join me and the thousands of other vegans globally in fighting for the fundamental rights of animals, the conservation of the environment, and the peace between each other.
The Reasons to Go Vegan Are Endless!
By Alexandra Barletta-Chacon

Generation Compromise|Our Food VS The Environment
By Emma Josephson
Emma is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group video contest. Emma stated: I believe veganism is the answer to a lot of this planet's hurt environmentally; due to the large amount of resources used in the process of producing animal products. The more obvious effect it has, is that veganism promotes compassion to all living beings which can help create a more compassionate people in the world.

By Rachel Massey

Vegetarianism
By Acsah Melgares
Acsah is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group video contest. Acsah stated: Hello, my name is Acsah and I've been a vegetarian of almost 2 years now. My switch to vegetarianism came as a surprise for everyone around me because I grew up in a culture where meat is served at every party. Although that may throw people off, I think that vegetarianism does not exclude any group. Anyone can be a vegetarian, so long as they want to. I decided to switch over to a vegetarian diet because of my love for animals. As a child, I would always point out animal cruelty-in the circus, food, etc. Along with not wanting to support animal cruelty, I decided to become a vegetarian because of my health. Many diseases, like high blood pressure, runs in my family, so I want to prevent it while saving the animals. I don't see a difference between torturing a dog and torturing a chicken- they are both god's wonderful creation. Therefore, I want to look out for animals that "belong" to the meat industry in hopes that one day, I can make a difference. I hope that my video has shown a brief explanation to why I am a vegetarian. I enjoyed making it and I hope you enjoyed watching! Thank you for your time.

A GUIDE FOR MEAT EATERS ABOUT VEGETARIAN NUTRITION
By Lonnae Hickman
Lonnae is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group video contest. Lonnae stated: I am interested in a vegetarian lifestyle, because I am vegetarian! Also i just really enjoy how it is a healthier way of eating and feeling. It's been proven so many times that eating meat is terrible for you. I also don't agree with how many companies treat and kill their animals. It's just not ethical or right to not give any animal the life it's suppose to have. No animal should be locked in a small cage for it's entire life and then killed. That is the main reason as to why I've been interested in vegetarianism.

JERRY AND VEGETARIANISM
By Jerry Fu
Jerry is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group Video Contest. He stated: I have always had a lot of respect and admiration toward vegetarians. But it was not until recently, I considered vegetarianism as part of my diet. I have always been interested in vegetarianism due to its water conservation and humane treatment of animals. But the cherry on top - the overwhelming health benefits - is what really led me to my final decision.
VEGETARIANISM...THE WAY TO BE
By Prerana Pai
Prerana is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group Video Contest. Prerana stated: I am an 11 year old girl. I am a vegetarian, and I am proud to be so. I am also very passionate about it as I am against animal cruelty. I have made a video to promote vegetarianism and hope to spread the message to the masses. I love all living things, and cannot bear hurting even a little ant. Then how can I eat a chicken, or a lamb? Even the thought of the agony and fear they must be going through when they are butchered to be eaten makes me very very sad. Though I admit that sometimes I get tempted when all my friends eat meat during parties, I stand by what I believe in and am proud to say that I have never given in to temptation.

NO MORE MEAT
By Noam Lautman
Noam Lautman is a winner of The Vegetarian Resource Group video contest. He stated, "I became interested in vegetarianism when I was about 10 years old. My uncle and his family took me to an upscale fish restaurant where they ordered lobster on a bed of rice. I had never seen such a thing before, and it was quite a shock to see a whole lobster sitting there, just as advertised, on a bed of rice. I could hardly look at it and went to eat at another table. Later my father told me that to cook a lobster, people buy it live and dump it in boiling water. That was my introduction to trying to eat in a more humane manner."

Justin Timberlake created an unlikely sensation when he debuted a singing, rapping cup ‘o soup character who tormented a Salvation Army Santa with the catchphrase “give it on up to Homelessville.” Tonight, the character was back, this time as a giant piece of tofu, horning in on the turf of a sausage salesmen and professing his love of all things vegan by singing “bring it on down to Veganville” to top off each song. His performances ran the gamut, through parodies of Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” (“Brown Rice Baby” and Rihanna’s “We Found Love” (“…In A Meatless Place”). Given the costume, there was only one place the sketch could end up. You guessed it: the “Harlem Shake,” or in this case the “Vegan Shake.” |
